Facilities
For the 300+ student athletes who train and compete for the Rockwood Swim Club, they can now swim in their own version of "A Pool of Dreams".
Through a collaborative effort that included the RSCA board of directors and parents, the Rockwood School District, the Facilities Development Department within USA Swimming (the national governing body for swimming) and other local volunteers within the community - RSCA has added a state-of-the-art 50 meter above ground pool to its already nationally renowned aquatics program.
This facility is comparable to the pool that hosted the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Long Beach, California, as well as the upcoming 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Omaha, Nebraska.
"This new pool allows our older and more accomplished athletes to train at the 50 meter national level for 7 months out of the year, rather than 2 1/2 months previously, which will provide a huge advantage in their ability to train and compete for such national meets such as the U.S. Open, Speedo Junior Championships, and the U.S. Olympic Team Trials", per Mary Liston, National Team Coach.
Kim Miller, current President of the RSCA board of directors, has also noticed another distinct benefit since the pool opened in July, 2005. With all the groups of swimmers and coaches in one central pool, the athletes now have the chance to see the other swimmers, of other ages and talent levels, which has raised the competitive bar for everyone. "Every swimmer feels they can now swim faster, do their best, and expand their individual goals because they have such a great pool to swim in", quoted Miller. "The opening of this training facility has also enhanced the programs for senior water classes, Masters swimming, and the SwimAmerica program sponsored by the American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA)", said Miller.
The new 50 meter pool is located on the grounds of Crestview Middle School, just west of the intersection of Clayton Road and Clarkson Road in Ellisville, MO.
